Game
Developed by students at DigiPen Institute of Technology, Tag: The Power of Paint is a free, first-person puzzle platformer which focuses on the players’ ability to modify their environment as they see fit, simply by painting it. Enjoy a unique and emergent gameplay experience, as you traverse each highly stylized level, using your endless supply of paint and all the power that comes with it to make your way to the goal.
Currently, there are 3 different paint colors available, and each one empowers the player with a different ability upon contact with the painted surface. They are:
Green - Launch off the surface
Red - Speed boost
Blue - Stick to the surface

hey guys,
I was the guy at the presentation today that wanted to help you on your art. You guys have a great platform puzzle game that just needs some polish that I can help with. I have three years experience with 3d modeling and animation from other colleges. I have only worked on mods for other games mainly some CS and unreal mods.
Here is my name and contact info you can get me at.

Very cool game. Good job!

lol
December 24th, 2008 at 2:30 am
realy great game you made,i wish there would be a multyplayer mode or a level editor…but anyway, its fantastic !
January 10th, 2009 at 6:18 am
relay a nice game specs a little bit to high if you ask me
and also is it gonna be open source or is there gonna be a lvl editor
January 11th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Are you gonna make the game be able to run on a computer that doesnt support PixelShader 2.0a?
Or is it a way to make the game belive that my computer supports it?
I really want to try the game!
It looks so cool and uniqe.
January 16th, 2009 at 4:10 am
I very much liked this game, original idea (forgive for the wrong letter I simply from Russia)
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Great that the game made it in the
“2009 Independent Games Festival Student Showcase Winners”

January 22nd, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Ha that’s a really neat idea! Good job guys =)
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:45 am
This is a fabulous idea, but I think it wouldn’t work for the color-blind. The colors need a little bit of texture differences for all to enjoy.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:00 pm
It’s a great game, I really enjoyed playing the first few levels.
However, I didn’t enjoy playing them again after I had quit and continued playing the next day.
Would a level select option be too much to ask? I’d like to be able to show friends the later levels without slogging through the tutorials.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
This game is terrific! I would love to see more of this so I hope you guys keep working on this! I’m sending the link to all of my friends and posting it on my website!
January 23rd, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I played this after reading about IGF and I really enjoyed it. Great job!
January 24th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
I agree with Smee; a level selector would be great. The game crashed while I was on the fifth stage, and I had to drag through the previous levels all over again to get back to where I was.
January 25th, 2009 at 8:38 am
This game looks interesting, but based on the visuals the system requirements are really overboard. Unfortunately I can’t run this because I have an older PC - perhaps you should look into bringing down the requirements?
January 25th, 2009 at 10:00 am
This is totally amazing. Need more levels though, it’s very short.
January 25th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Fantastic game, the only game I can think of to compare it to would be Portal (also by DigiPen alumni) for creativity and imaginative gameplay. Gameplay is fantastic and the levels look great. I can only hope you’re working on non-gameplay improvements (the ability to save/load games, a level editor, etc.) and will release a commercial version someday soon. I’d happily buy a copy.
January 26th, 2009 at 7:31 am
Amazing game, thanks.
January 26th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Thanks a lot guys, really good idea, and great game !!!
Go on, I can’t wait for brand new stuff !!!
January 26th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
This game was amazing, and I found it to be the perfect thing to do with spare time. One thing is it need more levels, or at least an editor, but I’m sure those two are on your minds already. Thanks for the fun game
January 27th, 2009 at 8:54 am
Great game. I agree it could use more levels, but when you can make graffiti on the walls, that makes up for it.
January 29th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
From all what I’ve heard it is a really nice game.
I just have a problem:
the graphics are messed up. The ground and the walls are invisible somehow ( I just see the background), and if I move my mouse they are visible for a short moment.
After exiting a current game the main menu disappeared, too
I use a 8800GT @ WinXP
For this case some sort of FAQ on the site would be really, really useful
And thank you for a fresh gaming concept!
January 31st, 2009 at 11:23 am
Hi,
I just tried to play it with Win7/DirectX 11 and it says that a DLL is missing: d3dx9_35.dll
Is it possible to fix that so that the game works on Win7 as well?
February 2nd, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Yen: You need this installing. Don’t worry, it wont overwrite your DX11/10 as they work differently in Vista and 7.
February 2nd, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Wow.
Seriously, if you guys don’t develop this into a full game, you’re throwing away money.
February 4th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Is there any way to remap the keyboard? I’m having major issues using the default mapping.
February 4th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Really nice game! I have enjoyed it so much.
Congratulations and Thanks!!
February 6th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Just finished your game. Left me very surprised! I was genuinely disappointed when I finished the game. I definitely would like to see this game grow. Nice take on the credits. Good job with the originality too, I haven’t seen anything quite like this game.
February 7th, 2009 at 12:21 am
I’m seeing through walls too. 9500GT card.
February 7th, 2009 at 3:30 am
Hello ! Your game is amazing ! And very innovative. It’s really a pleasure to do levels, there is a fun and speed feeling which is realy rare in other games ! I really hope you will do many other levels, or give some kind of level creator !
February 8th, 2009 at 9:42 am
hi guys
great game and totally unique,i have been pc gaming since 1981 when i bought my first pc,ok it was a zx-81 and had a whoping 1k of ram, however it all started there
and over the years i have seen many games, some good and some dam awful, however “the power of paint” ranks up there with the top twenty, its very rare to get addicted to a game within the first few minutes, and it takes a unique gift to create a game that does this so well done guys
the main problem with todays pc(and console)games are there is too much emphasis on graphics and not enough on the gameplay,a perfect example of this is “assassins creed” which is graphically amazing but has zero gameplay, and also the last two “need for speed” releases were the same, the developers paid too much attention to the looks and not enough to the gameplay
however with “the power of paint” you have managed to combine both graphics and gameplay in a totally amazing game
so well done guys and keep up the good work
all the best guys

Yea, game is awsome!! If you guys gonna release it onto xbox live ill bet you would make loads of money with it!
February 14th, 2009 at 2:54 am
I just published a review at download.com where I found this gem of a game on the front page. I gave it a very favorable review; compared it to Portal for it’s inventiveness, humor, level design and polish. Excellent work!
Your development team stands out. Hands down! No questions!
February 20th, 2009 at 11:41 am
wow
this game is awsome
March 2nd, 2009 at 3:41 am
Hi Tag Team. The Power of Paint is best paint game which I ever played. Excellent idea and qualitative work. Thanks!
March 7th, 2009 at 2:24 am
Awsome! I loved it, but it’s a little bit to short…

I would be very happy if there was level editor
March 11th, 2009 at 8:58 pm

I really hope you all continue doing what you do best!
March 26th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Congrats on your IGF win!! You deserve it :).
March 28th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Tag was absolutely wonderful. I loved the mechanics!
March 28th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Oh, and you have to love a game that doesn’t need any instructions, save some on-screen tips: the levels are the tutorial.
March 29th, 2009 at 10:24 am
great game! wish there were more lvls and editor and it would be perfect!
March 31st, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Interesting, I’m up for playing it.
I was wondering if there was any particular reason for choosing the colours for each thing? The green makes sense to me, makes me think of flubber, but I would have thought blue would go for speed [think subconcious-link to Sonic], and red to go for climbing walls [Spiderman perhaps?]. Just a random thought hehe.
March 31st, 2009 at 5:09 pm
Just wanted to let you guys know that I really enjoyed the game and I’d love to see more of it. A buddy of mine who went to GDC reported about your game on the AZHP (Arizona Hobbyists Paradise) Podcast and I’ve played thru it twice. If I was a developer, I’d be hiring all of you on the team and giving you a paycheck. Great job and keep up the great work!

I looooved your game.. this have a lot of potential with some powerful physics engine.
Can’t wait to see some enemies to defeat with different colors!
Keep up the good work!
April 1st, 2009 at 11:16 am
this games does not work on both of my pc.
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Wonderful!
Original and entertaining.
A unique take to the first-person genre.
Triple the number of levels, emphasize on the ideology (the power of paint…) by creating some sort of story and sell it on Steam for $10 - it will be the next surprise success.
April 4th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Imagine this as a platform game, it would be awesome.
It could very well be the next Little Big Planet
April 7th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Hey guys, great game, just saw you guys at a “CO-OP” episode, I shall give it a try.
It’s truly innovative.
April 7th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I saw your game featured on the CO-OP show, and it was an AWESOME GAME. GREAT WORK!
April 7th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Amazing work, all! Congrats!
April 8th, 2009 at 1:09 am
great game! its so awesome
April 9th, 2009 at 10:31 am
I saw your game on Area5’s Co-Op show. I love that the four of you were able to create something together, especially something so creative in its use of color and game design. I totally agreed with your assessment that the world had to be grey or monotone to accentuate what useful colors existed. Can’t wait to try it out!
April 11th, 2009 at 4:56 am
A awesome gameplay, nice idea
Congratulations,
Ragdoll, french programmer (i woudl like to)
April 17th, 2009 at 10:33 am
This game is simply amazing. Probably the best puzzle game I’ve played since Portal.
April 17th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Saw you at GDC on the Co-op show. Great game and good luck for the future.
April 21st, 2009 at 4:57 pm

May 10th, 2009 at 12:13 am
When I trying to play game I get: Error
Can`t initialize FMOD sound system
Help me pls
May 17th, 2009 at 4:54 am
I find if funny how many people have requested a level editor without enabling the developer console and realizing that there actually is a level editor. It seems a little broken but works for the most part. If I had any skill as a level designer and the few broken aspects of the editor didn’t crash the game I would love to make some levels.
May 25th, 2009 at 10:18 am
It is excelent !!!!!!
congretulations !!!!!!!
It is the best game from times of Portal
i want MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
